While it would seem Portland would come out looking fatigued, from a Seven game series against the Spokane Chiefs in Round 1. That was completely the opposite. Their energy levels were high, so high in fact they swept Everett in tonight’s game 5-2.
Portland opened the 1st period with Two unanswered goals. At 2:13 in the 1st period, Jake Gricius, would rebound a shot and put it past Hart to start Portland’s drive. Portland seemed to be able to keep the puck in Everett’s zone most of the period, Portland would blast 17 shots on goal, nearly doubling Everetts by the end of 1st.
Heading into the 2nd period, Everett trailed by Two and it looked as if it they had picked up some Energy and might be able to turn this game around. Just 2:52 into the 2nd period John Ludvig, would fire Portland’s 20th shot on goal and net it, making it 3-0. While Everett started stepping up their game, they weren’t able to get past Kehlr’s saves. At 12:36 Fonteyne would follow through with a rebounded shot, and now trail by Two (3-1). Continous back and forth Hockey would go on, But Richards would spark a break with 1:07 left in the 2nd period, and get past Kehlr closing the lead too just one goal (3-2). Portland would put the heat on until the buzzer, where they’d get past Hart with 1.1 seconds left in the 2nd. Now putting Portland up 4-2.
While 0 penalties have been issued in the game, Portland would get the first penalty, minutes into the 3rd. Bajkov would be issued a penalty, minutes later as well. Both teams were able to kill the “Minor: 2 minute” penalties. As Bajkov got out of the box, they struck a fast break, but couldn’t connect. Cody Glass, would score for Portland at 9:57, capitalizing on their lead (5-2).
