Everett – As if it was almost a replay of Game 2, the Everett Silvertips blew a lead in the third period and lost in OT against the Swift Current Broncos in front of 4,872 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Upon warm-ups, Everett looked energetic and eager to play. The Swift Current Broncos didn’t look as if they were prepared for tonight’s game. Everett was eager to play, but Swift Current would put up a fight and play buzzer-buzzer and win in 3-2 in OT. One of Everett’s mistakes were not capitalizing on their four power play opportunities, and even giving up a goal during a Tips power play.
Opening the first period, Everett and the Broncos were playing a rough body-body game. Everett would be successful in their only penalty kill of the night during the first period. Glenn Gawdin(10) would open the scoring drive at 14:44 from a drop pass from Aleksi Heponiemi. Jake Christiansen would shoot from the blue line and Riley Sutter(8) would tie it up a minute later. With less than three minutes remaining in the first tempers would start to spill over with players. At 18:35 Matt Fonteyne(8) would get the credit for getting the lead, but it looked as if it went off of the Broncos skate. With 58.4 seconds remaining Patrick Bajkov would snap a shot and get past Broncos goalie Stuart Skinner, but the play was dead. With penalties issued we would then have 4-on-4 hockey into the second period.
Everett would get a power play just 1:33 into the second period. Bajkov would shoot from the left circle and it appeared to sneak in past the left post. Upon further review, when Skinner went to make the save he kicked the net up and it went under the net. Goal was announced as, “No good”. Everett would be put back on the power play and be unsuccessful. While Everett had many chances late in the second period and another power play, the score would remain 2-1 favoring the Tips.
With over 5:00 minutes of play gone by in the third, Everett would get another power play that Swift Current would successfully kill yet again. The final power play would come at 15:24 into the third. To tie the game and take it to overtime was Glenn Gawdin(11) who got his second of the night at 16:43 into the third period. Gawdin got another drop pass, where he shot the puck and got his own rebound to get a short-handed goal and tie the game 2-2, all while on the penalty kill.
With OT puck drop, their was chances for both teams, but Swift Current capitalized first. Glenn Gawdin(12) got his third goal (Hat Trick) from a pass from the left corner where he was able to find an empty zone between the two circles getting past the Silvertips goalie Carter Hart.
